It's a Wrap! The 2019 Strategy of Impact Conference

November 20, 2019

On November 12th over 220 international research professionals gathered at the British Library London for the third Strategy of Impact Conference for a day of learning, listening, and networking about the importance of tracking research and measuring the impact and it's implications. With a focus on building the community of like-minded organisations and professionals, funders (both large and small), charities, research organisations, universities, researchers, and consultants found the day extremely worthwhile and insightful.

Sir Alan Wilson from the Alan Turing Institute opened the Conference discussing the social and economic impacts from research in mathematical science.

Sir Alan was followed by Dr Jim Smith, Wellcome, who discussed the view from both sides of the fence when measuring research impact.

Natacha Wilson from Cambridge Insights presented her journey from data to insights - creating a greater impact.

The morning Keynotes were rounded off with Professor Virginia Murray from Public Health England who engaged the audience about the science-policy interface.

The afternoon agenda split into three breakout sessions:

  1. Research on Research - What is ‘Research on Research’, and what does it mean in practice? What are stakeholders aiming to achieve, and how are they approaching it? A panel shared some of their experiences and discussed some of the different approaches and considerations. Round table discussions then focussed on what RoR meant to your organisation, and what the important research questions might be. Specific projects were then presented and discussed.

  2. Analysis and Visualisation of Data - Including insights into research tracking data; improving engagement and impact; advanced analytics, capturing user perspectives; and understanding and informing research funding through data.

  3. The Interconnectedness of All Things - How to leverage existing data to make it easier to understand the outputs, outcomes and impacts of research, including recent and future developments in Researchfish. Followed by a session on Insights on Translational Research and Intellectual Property.

Presentations and a summary of the Research on Research parallel session are now available to view and download on ShowPad
