Researchfish, a global research outcome collection service advances its US research community

March 23, 2016

AcademyHealth has recently joined the Researchfish community to conduct a pilot project to develop, implement, and evaluate a set of tools and processes to assess the impact of a subset of research-related investments supported by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF).

AcademyHealth has a long history of supporting grantmaking programs for RWJF and working to demonstrate the value of those investments. As the professional home for health services and policy researchers, AcademyHealth works together with its members to improve health and the performance of the health system by supporting the production and use of evidence to inform policy and practice. Researchfish will enable AcademyHealth to track research outputs consistently across allocated research grants and to monitor progress towards impact, enabling them to develop successful strategies to maximize the impact of funded projects.

The Researchfish cloud-based service connects researchers with the funders and research institutes that support them, enabling visibility and accountability for all stakeholders. AcademyHealth will be able to capture the outcomes from specific research grants drawing upon a structured database of outputs, thereby addressing the challenges and inefficiency of extracting information from the narrative reports of investigators.

Researchfish makes reporting research outcomes possible in a systematic manner and enables a single point of data entry for researchers who need to communicate with multiple funders.  Once outcomes have been captured, the Researchfish reporting functionality will enable AcademyHealth to constantly measure and evaluate the impact of the research grants included in their pilot project.

“We are delighted to welcome AcademyHealth to our growing US research community, as we profoundly believe in changing the way that global research is assessed and enabling better research funding decisions to be made,” commented Researchfish US Director, Dave Kochalko.

“As a voice for the field, AcademyHealth engages in numerous activities to document and communicate the impact of health services and policy research to encourage the use of evidence in decision-making. We look forward to working with Researchfish to more systematically track and monitor the impact of the research grants that we manage,” says Bonnie Austin, AcademyHealth Vice President.
